Fish
Fish is the only ingredient in the polymeal diet which is not eaten daily. It is recommended that fish be consumed 4 days a week to avoid increased blood mercury levels.
Consuming fish reduces one’s chance of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) by approximately 14%. This reduction in risk is attributed to the omega-3 fatty acids in the fish. Omega-3 fatty acids have also been shown in studies to minimize arthritis symptoms and prevent depression.
Omega-3 fatty acids are found in oily fish such as salmon, herring and mackerel.
If you are a vegetarian, vegan, or fish-allergic, you can take a flax seed oil supplement for similar results.
